Charters Towers is mourning the loss of former Mayor Frank Beveridge, remembered as a strong leader who dedicated his life to the community.

Mr Beveridge’s leadership, generosity and vision left an enduring legacy across the region.

The former Mayor has been praised for his tireless advocacy of major infrastructure, his determination to see local businesses thrive, and his drive to strengthen regional cooperation.

Mr Beveridge worked to forge enduring partnerships across North Queensland, ensuring Charters Towers had a strong voice in the wider region.

His legacy also includes a deep commitment to sustainability, a passion for preserving the town’s rich heritage, and a vision that set the foundations for long-term prosperity.

His children, Kris Beveridge, Katie Dunlop, Jesse Beveridge and Courtney Beveridge-Argaet described him as someone who lived a big, loud, long life crammed into 61 short years, surrounded by his family and friends.

“Dad will forever be remembered as someone who never dreamed without action, he simply made it happen, no matter how difficult or unlikely it sounded to anyone else,” the family of Mr Beveridge said in a statement.

“He climbed Everest base camp, set a world record for travel around Australia, hiked to the glaciers with us as kids and even took us to the Great Wall of China.

“He lived deliberately, a life so immense, that when placed in writing it would make you question the truth of it.

“In fact he would probably love that bit.”

To his family, he was not only a leader but a source of constant love and inspiration.

His children reflected on that side of his life.

“Dad walked hand in hand with his wife Sharon for 45 years, he built our home himself, raised us four children and welcomed four grandsons,” the statement continued.

“These boys were his whole world, and he has never been prouder than when he was with them.

“As a family we are not sure how to do this part without him.

“It feels impossible already to not have him here.

“But we thank you, for being his friends, his family and his community.

“He loved this life and we all will keep living for him.”
