Owner Lynette Snowdowne at the site of Charters Towers Glass and Aluminium
After 23 years serving Charters Towers and surrounding properties, local business Charters Towers Glass and Aluminium is preparing to close.
Owner and director Lynette Snowdowne is seeking a buyer for the business premises at 33 Deane Street, where Charters Towers Glass and Aluminium has provided services to the region.
Mrs Snowdowne said the decision to close the business had been difficult.
“Due to circumstance, we are now closing the business which I am very sorry about,” she said.
Mrs Snowdowne and her late husband, James Snowdowne, established their connection with the local business community through James' work as a qualified builder.
“My husband James Snowdowne was a qualified builder from Townsville, who originally had Charters Towers Evaporative Air Conditioning where the Chinese shop is in Mosman,” Mrs Snowdowne said.
“Then he decided to buy Charters Towers Glass and Aluminium off Lindsey O'Shannun, then moved the business to the back of the Council Offices.
“After a while in 2026 we purchased the shed where we are at 33 Deane Street.”
Following James' passing nearly five years ago, Mrs Snowdowne said she continued running the business alongside her staff, maintaining its services to residents, rural properties and stations throughout the region.
“Along with the staff I have now, we have carried on since I lost my husband.
“I have enjoyed looking after the local residents of the town and the country people on properties and stations.
“We have done lots of projects over the years, too many to recount, my staff are very qualified in what they do and I am sure our work will be very much missed.”
Mrs Snowdowne intends to remain in Charters Towers, but is seeking interested buyers for the large shed at 33 Deane Street inviting them to contact local real estate agencies Ray White Geaney & Kirkwood and Gold City Realty.
