Local organisation, the Charters Towers Host Lions Club, is encouraging residents to become members, with new volunteers set to play an important role in helping the club continue its community fundraising efforts.
The Charters Towers Host Lions Club raises funds through raffles and other volunteer work, with proceeds then being donated to a range of local groups, clubs and organisations.
President of the Charters Towers Host Lions Club, Tony McDonald, is encouraging community members to join, highlighting that while Lions Clubs International contributes to a wide range of initiatives, the Charters Towers branch additionally provides local financial assistance.
“We're here to raise funds for worthwhile organisations,” Mr McDonald said.
“Lions International has given to a lot of different organisations over the years, like the Cancer Foundation.
“Anything that's worthwhile, the Lions Club gives to.
“But we, as our own club, give extra money to local groups.
“We try to stick to what's in our town and we’re here for anybody who reaches out.
“Whether it be a school, or any organisation that is in need, we find a worthwhile initiative that we can donate to to make a benefit for the town and the community.
“Only with our members' help is it possible to support the community.”
Mr McDonald invited residents interested in joining the Host Lions Club to attend a meeting to learn more about the organisation and access the sign-up process.
“The sign up process is easy,” he said.
“All you’ve got to do is phone us up and we'll tell you when the next meeting is.
“You can attend and see if you like it, you can sign up there.
“The first year of membership is $20.
“The normal sign up cost is $60 but the club puts in the extra $40.
“It's as simple as that.”
