Coles is set to enter Charters Towers, working with Goldtower in what owner Paul McIver says is a clear show of support for rural communities.
Council has approved a development application for a full-line 3,898m² Coles supermarket in Charters Towers, featuring landscaped surrounds, 232 shaded car parks, accessible bays, taxi zones, and a dedicated click-and-collect drive-through.
Mr McIver celebrated the achievement of both Coles and Goldtower, outlining the broader implications the approval has for The Towers.
“Coles coming to Charters Towers is a big win for the region,” McIver said.
“We are excited that Coles continues its long-standing support to regional Australia and that they have chosen to work with Goldtower.
“Through research we identified that a lot of people are currently driving to Townsville to do their shopping.
“We understand that shopping local is important to growing the town and wanted to stop the leakage of retail spend to Townsville.
“Not one objection was received for this application, and we know that the people of Charters Towers deserve a state of the art, full line modern supermarket.
“This $20 million development, will provide jobs during construction and will also provide retail job security for locals long into the future.”
The development is set to finish over the coming years.
